Primary Science Fair at BT Young Scientist Exhibition
Over 3,000 primary school students displayed their projects at the RDS Primary Science Fair at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
This is the 10th year of the Primary Science Fair at the the Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition and it is the first year under the sponsorship and organisation of the RDS.
From January 14-16, students from 4th, 5th and 6th classes from over 100 primary schools in 22 counties, north and south, focused on topics from Swine Flu to Eco Classrooms to Spiders, Waterworks, Electric Motors, Lighthouses, the Weather, Wind Power and Slime.
Participants - aged nine to twelve - displayed their projects in a specially designated Primary Science Fair Zone where they were judged by a panel of science experts. Each day from 3pm, awards were presented at each stand within the Zone.
While the RDS Primary Science Fair is not part of the main Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition competition, it nevertheless provides an excellent opportunity for primary school students to experience this great event and to display their work at a major science exhibition. The Fair also acts as a valuable method to encourage primary school students to choose science subjects at second level.
To further enhance the primary schoolchildren's experience at the Exhibition, the RDS organized a special Primary Science Show each day, showing a range of spectacular science experiments to help illustrate the application of science to everyday life. (Source: RDS)
