EVENT: Conference: ‘Equality between women and men in a time of change’
ORGANISED BY: European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (DG EMPL)

VENUE: Brussels.

The two-day meeting will highlight the new challenges for equality between women and men, including the persisting gender pay gap as well as the impact of the current economic crisis on the labour market and the European social model.

In addition, the issue of the influence of women in decision-making will be debated.

The event will feature speeches by

• Vladimir Špídla (EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities); 
• Margot Wallström (Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Institutional Relations and Communication Strategy);
• Ministers from the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, and the United Kingdom.
